October, 2016
Executive Summary July-September 2016
During July-September 2016 a number of Interbull meetings (eg Interbull-ICAR TF, GenoEx-PSE etc.) were held and summarised at an Interbull Steering Committee meeting held by conference call on 7 September 2016, during which the following key decisions and actions were taken:
Mendelian Sampling Validation Test introduced in 2017
The SC accepted a recommendation from the ITC that Mendelian Sampling Validation Test will be introduced. It is the intention that the MS validation test will be obligatory for all usual traits from a test-run in 2017, but that at least in the first two years, the results of the MS validation alone shall not be used to reject any data. Details for implementation will be discussed in Chile during ITC, SC and Business Meetings.
Extension of InterGenomics to other breeds/populations
Following our announcement earlier in 2016 that an InterGenomics-style evaluation of the Guernsey population is being discussed, the SC also received a proposal from Interbull Service Users for the Interbull Centre to carry out InterGenomics-like evaluations for additional breeds/populations. The SC endorsed the proposal for which the initiative will remain with the Interbull Service Users. Further details will be clarified in the coming weeks and shared during the Interbull Business Meeting in Chile.
GenoEx-PSE
The Genomics Exchange platform, “GenoEx”, is currently being established at the Interbull Centre. Implementation of its first service, Parentage SNP Exchange or “GenoEx-PSE”, is progressing well, and will be launched during the Interbull and ICAR meetings in Puerto Varas, Chile.
Brown Swiss type traits
Test/pilot runs for genetic evaluation of additional type traits for Brown Swiss are currently in progress in order to include these in routine runs once accepted.
New Chair for the Genomic Reliability Working Group
Zengting Liu (Germany) has been appointed as the Chair of the Genomic Reliability Working Group.
